Senior Manager of Internal Communications

Special Olympics International

Washington, DC

Changing lives and attitudes for more than 40 years, Special Olympics International (SOI) is a global non-governmental organization based in Washington, DC that has grown from a backyard summer camp to a global movement of more than 3 million children and adults with intellectual disabilities who participate in year-round sports training and athletic competitions in over 170 countries and in each of the 50 U.S. States and the District of Columbia. Much more than a sports movement, Special Olympics is also an effective catalyst for personal and social change, inviting all citizens to discover Special Olympics athletes as valuable members of their families, their communities, and their countries.

The Special Olympics Movement is fueled by athletes, volunteers, family members, philanthropic supporters and a dedicated staff of over 200 worldwide all operating within a network of 230 accredited programs, each of which is an independent entity with its own governing body and professional staff. Special Olympics International (SOI) serves as a central governing organization helping to coordinate and harness the efforts of the Movement. SOI partners closely with the political, business, sports, health, education, entertainment and media leadership in each country and each state where Special Olympics Programs exist.

Exponential growth, ever-expanding geographic reach, strong brand equity, and the rise of a passionate and engaged group of diverse constituents has created an unprecedented need for open, consistent, and cohesive communications within the Movement. To encourage innovation, drive morale, share success and build community, SOI seeks a skillful and astute strategic communications professional for the newly created position of Senior Manager of Internal Communications. Reporting to the Vice President of Branding and Communications, the Senior Manager (SMIC) will manage, create and implement effective internal communications messages, processes and procedures to ensure a consistent, coordinated flow of information across SOI staff, program leaders, and core constituents that accurately reflects Special Olympics’ overall mission and business objectives.

Partnering closely with key communications staff, the executive team, and program leaders, the SMIC will be a credible and valuable communications conduit, helping SOI stakeholders to achieve their internal communications objectives while promoting the priorities and key messages of SOI as a whole. The decentralized nature of Special Olympics requires that the SMIC will be broadly informed and sensitive to the diverse needs and concerns of the many members of the Special Olympics’ community. S/he will need to keep the many distributed and diverse stakeholders across the community informed of key priorities and activities across the organization in a timely fashion.

S/he will bring a high level of sophistication and professional savvy for messaging and creating consistent, streamlined channels of internal communication utilizing traditional and digital/on-line communications platforms. The SMIC will create and codify internal communications systems, tools and materials including memos, templates, messaging tip sheets for staff and other resources as needed.

An ideal candidate will have at least 5-7 years of experience relevant to developing and managing a complex, first-rate internal communications strategy. Experience leading these efforts within the context of a distributed, multi-stakeholder organization is desirable. Candidates should have demonstrated the capacity to craft substantive and cohesive internal communications for a diverse set of constituents as well as an exceptional talent for building and sustaining relationships among and across key staff and departments, and for driving results collaboratively across regions, chapters and programs. S/he must possess outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail; excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills, including the ability to advance complex projects and solve problems collaboratively, coupled with the willingness to act resourcefully, authoritatively, and resolutely. S/he should have the charisma, cultural sensitivity, and interpersonal skills necessary to be an effective representative and key internal liaison among a diverse set of staff and constituents and a passion to articulate and advance the mission and values that make Special Olympics distinct.

NOMINATIONS & APPLICATIONS: Due to the pace of this search, candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, but no later than July 31, 2010. Applications including a cover letter describing your interest and qualifications, your resume (in Word format), salary history and where you learned of the position should be sent to: soi-smic@nonprofitprofessionals.com. Travis is a golden god, I bet he has thighs like a goddamn thoroughbred. He rips harder then most other mere mortals combined and his movies have defined what is possible with millions of dollars worth of cameras and the most talented kid to ever strap into a snow plank.

Check out this sweet little edit to hear the man speak, and rip apart pow like he was born in the heavens. To view the video go to http://snowboard-mag.com/?q=node/39364.

By The Time I Get To Arizona

arizona_front_back_web

By the Time I Get to Arizona, a new exhibition about the recent Arizona immigration laws — Senate Bill 1070 in particular, ranking in notoriety with Prop. 187 or AB 7734 — includes a video installation by guerrilla artist The Phantom, taped surreptitiously along the U.S.-Mexico border, exposing everything from coyotes and black helicopters to the desolate wasteland that faces immigrant hopefuls trying to make it into the U.S. Featured in the exhibition: multimedia artworks by Acamonchi, Dabs & Myla, Dash 2000 Fidel, El Mac, Estevan Oriol, Jaime Germs Zacarias, and Ritzy Periwinkle. Curated by in-house artist collective Viejas Del Mercado and sponsored by shoemaker Puma, it’s your chance to see the latest avant-garde street art that tackles today’s issues in a relevant way — and it’s not for nothing that the avant-garde are always the ones who get shot at first.

July 16th, 2010 by admin

In the summer, action sports come alive—as do action sports tours. You may be thinking, “Gnarly bro, where can I check out these sick athletes preforming sweet aerial tricks?” Well brosef, you can check out the Dew Tour’s Nike 6.0 BMX Open when it lands just outside Soldier Field on July 23rd and 24th.

The Nike 6.0 BMX open is part of a larger competition called The Dew Tour. The Dew Tour’s main sponsor is Mountain Dew, but all the tour’s stops fall under a larger organization, Alli Alliance of Action Sports (not to be confused with the bank or weight lose supplement). The Dew Tour runs for a total of five months, June through October, and makes five stops at cities all over the US.

The first two events are single sport exclusive, skateboarding at the first and BMX at the second (this is Chicago’s stop). The third and fourth stops feature events from both sports, while the fifth and final event is the championship stop for both sports. Winners of the tour are crowned on a points system where points are awarded at each stop/event. The winner of the tour is decided on cumulative points total and will pocket $2.5 million dollars.

Kicking off at noon on Friday the 23rd, will host the dirt preliminary and final, but will also start the park preliminary. After most of the athletes are out of the air, Motion City Soundtrack will end with day with a concert outside Solider Field.

12pm–6:30pm Festival Villiage Is Open

1:15pm–2:45pm BMX Dirt Preliminary

3:30pm–6pm BMX Park Preliminary

7pm–8:30pm BMX Dirt Finals

9pm–11pm Concert : Motion City Soundtrack with New Politics

Saturday marks the end of the tour stop and conclusion to the park portion of the competition. The vert competition will also begin and end today and sorry, no concert to finish off the night.

12pm–6pm Festival Village Open

12:30pm–2pm BMX Vert Preliminary

3pm–5pm BMX Park Finals

6pm–7pm BMX Vert Finals

Dave Mirra, Jamie Bestwick, Chad Kagy and Ryan Nyquist are just a few of the athletes set to compete in the various events. These dudes are some of the most decorated action sports athletes of all time and rarely disappoint. Their stunts and tricks will likely be one of the coolest things you see this summer.

Tadpole was also be at the Dew Action Sports Tour in Chicago. Tadpole will produce Toyota’s sponsorship called Adrenaland  in partnership with Campos Creative Works.

Thousands of fans will be sure to crowd in to take part in Toyota’s Adrenaland located in the Festival Village. At the Toyota Adrenaland in Chicago, fans can check out the latest Toyota models while creating their own videos, playing video games or get their pictures taken — all from within the comfort of a Toyota.  We will be having autograph signings with Jamie Bestwick on Friday and Saturday.  You can stay updated with the autograph schedule and all of the happenings in Adrenaland by following us on twitter @toyotaactionhub.
